Chris nodded in agreement to what Cmdr Cypher had said about bringing the last remaining slice of cake to the Captain’s Cabin for him to enjoy when he wakes up and has his coffee. The Marine Captain got up from his spot at the table and went over to the Replicator and made a transparent domed lid to place over the last piece of cake so it would stay fresh for Capt Little. Since the slice was already on a small plate, the lid was not that large and would be easy for Chris to carry back with him so he could resume the post he volunteered for.

MCpt Lopez: Thank you for the wonderful cake, Jayden! It was delicious and I’m sure the Captain will enjoy it too when he wakes up.

As the Marine Captain took the plate with the domed lid and began walking for the door, he congratulated Prof Brewer again on his birthday.

MCpt Lopez: Congratulations on reaching 90, Professor. I’m so glad I got to share this special day with you.

Walking towards the exit of the VIP Observation Lounge, Chris smiled and gave a friendly nod to everyone else in the room before he walked out and into the corridor where he took the Turbolift back down to Deck 2 and made his way to the Captain’s Cabin. Entering, MCpt Lopez looked in the bedroom and could see that Capt Little was still asleep and the PADD on his end table by the bed wasn’t disturbed, which indicated it hadn’t been read yet. Chris placed the cake on the table in the sitting room and walked all the way into the bedroom and removed the PADD and took it back into the front room with him and began doing crossword puzzles on the names of 23rd Century Starships as he sat back down on the sofa and listened for any sign of coherence from the Captain.

Feeling like an honored chef, Jayden smiled at those who spoke kindly of the Black Forest Cake he made for Prof Brewer’s 90th birthday celebration. Now that the cake was finished and things were winding down, the Lieutenant JG figured they would all be returning to their duties soon. For Jayden, that meant sitting at the Science I Station on the Bridge while running continual scans for any anomalies along the way to their destination in Sector Omicron. The Chief Science Officer wondered if he could accompany the Professor back to his quarters so they could catch up on what they experienced together aboard Infiniti. Turning to Cmdr Cypher, Jayden made an inquiry…

Lt. JG DeGrazzio: Excuse me, Commander? Do you think it would be feasible for me to spend some time with the Professor in his cabin after the gathering? If anything comes up on the sensors, Lieutenant Mitchell would be able to see it at the Ops Station just as fast as I would at the Science Station.

The Lieutenant JG looked over at Prof Brewer and smiled as he hoped Cmdr Cypher would be accommodating in allowing him to stay with the Professor in the VIP Cabin here on Deck 1. There was still around 5 hours to go before they reached their destination and not really much for him to do on the Bridge. So Jayden was in high hopes that Cmdr Cypher would understand why he would rather spend time with Prof Brewer than sit at his duty station and monitor sensors with nothing on them to report.

Thom pondered the thought of Jayden not being on the Bridge for a while so he could spend time with the Professor and reached a decision. Since the sensors could also be monitored from Cole’s station, the XO felt the Lieutenant JG’s presence wouldn’t be needed for a while as they rapidly approached Sector Omicron.

Cmdr Cypher: That would be fine, Jayden. Since we’re pretty much finished here, the rest of us will go relieve Jo’Kla from his watch on the Bridge. Jamie, you could man the Engineering Station on the Bridge if you wish.

The Commander smiled as he stood up from the table in the VIP Observation Lounge and waited for the others to join him in walking back to the Bridge to relieve the Yeoman from his current assigned duty. Before leaving the lounge, Thom waited to hear if Jamie would be joining them on the Bridge or if the Chief Engineer would be returning to Main Engineering.

The Petty Officer smiled at Cmdr Cypher, since he didn’t mind being up on the Bridge at all. Although being down in Engineering was also the place to be during a serious emergency. But since they were still hours away from Sector Omicron, Jamie could always head back down to his console in Main Engineering when the time came.

PO3 Florenté: Sure, Commander! I wouldn’t mind being on the Bridge for a while. I can monitor everything in Engineering from there while we close the distance between here and Sector Omicron.

The Chief Engineering stood by the XO and waited for the others to join them in returning to the Bridge. Jamie really enjoyed the Black Forest Cake that was served for Prof Brewer’s birthday, he always thought a white cake with vanilla frosting was his favorite cake but that changed today! From now on he was going to say that Lt. JG DeGrazzio’s custom cake for the Professor was his favorite.

Jayden acknowledged all the compliments from all who ate the Black Forest Cake he designed in the Replicator with a smile. The Lieutenant JG was very happy with the way the cake came out and that everyone enjoyed it. It was now time to escort the Professor back to the VIP Cabin here on Deck 1, so Jayden walked over to Prof Brewer and spoke to him kindly.

Lt. JG DeGrazzio: I can escort you back to your cabin, Professor. Afterwards I can stay with you a while and we can chat about the excitement we had aboard Infiniti while dealing with the Deltaurans, if you wish?

The Chief Science Officer respectfully helped the Professor to his feet and walked him out of the VIP Observation Lounge. They passed Cmdr Cypher and PO3 Florenté who were standing by the door waiting for LtCmdr Centares, LtCmdr Graham and Lt. Mitchell to join the XO and Chief Engineer on their way to the Bridge. Jayden walked alongside Prof Brewer, smiling the whole way to the Professor’s cabin. The Lieutenant JG was so proud to be considered one of Prof Brewer’s friends and looked forward to speaking with him at length inside the cabin once they arrived.

When the two of them arrived, Jayden opened the door for Prof Brewer and allowed him to walk into his cabin first before entering himself. This was his first time in the VIP Cabin and was impressed with the use of space inside a ship of this size. Knowing that the Professor was probably not hungry since they had just eaten cake, the Lieutenant JG asked Prof Brewer if he wanted anything to drink.

Lt. JG DeGrazzio: Is there anything I can get for you to drink, Professor? If you don’t mind, I’ll use your Replicator to make me a cold glass of milk to help finish off that delicious cake we had.

Walking over to the Replicator, Jayden requested a cold glass of 2% Fat milk and then turned to the Professor and waited to hear if there was anything that he wanted from the Replicator himself. If Prof Brewer was looking for something to eat, Lt. JG DeGrazzio was more than happy to oblige! Jayden would make anything the Professor wanted to enjoy while they sat in his cabin and chatted away about their time together aboard Infiniti while they were engaged in the Battle of Sector Epsilon.

Lloyd was extremely surprised and pleased when Lt. JG DeGrazzio approached him and offered to escort him back to his cabin here on Deck 1. He was also delighted that Jayden decided to stay with him to chat about their experiences together when they were dealing with the Deltaurans. The mention of some refreshments sounded good too, even after they just finished some of the cake he furnished for the party.

Prof Brewer: That's a great idea, Jayden, to use the Replicator to create refreshments to drink while we chat awhile. I would be pleased to have a nice cold Ginger Ale.

When the refreshments arrived they enjoyed drinking and discussing their time together on Infiniti, when they were in the battle of Sector Epsilon. Their time together tonight was the perfect culmination of a great evening together. The Professor felt very fortunate to have Lt. JG Jayden DeGrazzio as a wonderful friend and great source of support. As Jayden was leaving for the Bridge they bid each other a good night with thanks for much happiness and a fun evening together.

The XO was joined by the rest of the Bridge Officers and together they entered the Bridge and resumed their stations, relieving Yeoman Jo’Kla of his temporary command of Event Horizon. It appeared that the Ensign did a good job since nothing was in disarray on the Command Deck. Looking over at the Klingon officer, Thom spoke to him in a professional manner.

Cmdr Cypher: Mr. Jo’Kla, what’s our status? Anything happen while we were gone?

As the Commander waited on the Yeoman to respond, Thom casually looked at the consoles on the Bridge to make sure there was nothing out of order. The XO trusted Ens Jo’Kla since Capt Little did as well, so there was no reason to suspect the Yeoman of leaving anything out of his status report. Thom stood there patiently waiting to hear the report from the Klingon officer.

The Ensign stood from the Ops Station as the Bridge crew entered and as soon as Cmdr Kee asked for a status report, it was precisely what Jo’Kla gave him since he had been gathering information while the Yeoman was alone on the Bridge.

Ens Jo’Kla: Nothing has appeared on any of our sensors since you all departed for the lounge, Commander. We’ve got three hours and forty-three minutes until we reach our destination in Sector Omicron. Cloaking Device is still operating efficiently, same with the Coaxial Warp Core. There have been no problems whatsoever, Sir.

The Klingon Yeoman stood there near the Ops Station as Lt. Mitchell resumed his position at the console as he waited on the XO to dismiss him from the Bridge so he could go about his duties that he had sworn to uphold before he went on this mission. Jo’Kla would see to it that his duty was performed to the best of his ability, even if he had to give up his life in the process since it was an honor to die in the line of duty. After all, it was the Klingon way to achieve access to Sto’Vo’Kor, which was the place in Klingon mythology for the honored dead.

Thom was relieved to hear that he hadn’t missed anything exciting in his absence from the Bridge during Prof Brewer’s birthday celebration in the VIP Observation Lounge. Ens Jo’Kla provided an excellent status report so there was nothing left to do but send him on his way to do whatever it is the Yeoman had to do next in his duties.

Cmdr Cypher: Excellent work, Mr. Jo’Kla! You’re relieved of Bridge duty and can go about your designated assignment. Thank you for your service, Yeoman. Dismissed.

The XO watched the large Klingon Ensign exit the Bridge by way of the Turbolift, heading for whatever his next assignment would be. Thom sat in his chair, leaving the Captain’s chair vacant for when Capt Little would eventually return to the Bridge. The Commander wondered if there was any way PO3 Florenté could narrow down the amount of time they still had to wait before reaching their destination.

Cmdr Cypher: Jamie, is there any way we can cut some time off our ETA? I’m sure I’m not the only one aboard just shivering with antici.....pation!

Thom waited on the Chief Engineer to get himself situated at the Engineering Station on the Bridge so he could make an assessment of their velocity. PO3 Florenté was a good Engineer and knew if it were at all possible; the Petty Officer would find a way. If Jamie couldn’t find a way, then there just was no way to speed up their journey to Sector Omicron.

Once Jamie was all situated at the Engineering Station on the Bridge, he feverishly went over diagram after diagram of the schematics of the drive system of Event Horizon. There was absolutely nothing they could do since all the power was going to the propulsion system as it was. All, that is, but the ship’s Cloaking Device.

PO3 Florenté: I’ve got all excess power going to the propulsion system, but the Cloaking Device. If we disengage that, I can shave off about another hour and a half. But Captain Little adamantly wants to make sure no one can detect where we’re going. So we’ll just have to cope with the time remaining, unless you want to ask him what he wants to do? I mean, I can remove the cause…..but not the symptom.

The Chief Engineer monitored the engines from his console on the Bridge and waited to hear from Cmdr Cypher on what to do. Jamie knew the Captain would still be sleeping in his cabin, so if the XO was to contact him, it would certainly wake him up. Unless Cmdr Cypher contacted MCpt Lopez and asked him to wake the Captain gently and make the inquiry for the XO in person.
