Ensign Florent? tapped the sequence on the console and the Aerowing detached from Infiniti.

Ens Florent?: Aye, Sir. We've detached and we're free to navigate. Setting course for Starbase 34.

He entered the course to the base Infiniti launched from in Sector Alpha and awaited the order to take the Aerowing to warp speed.

Aerowing

Yeoman Panettiere looked out into the stars through the cockpit windows and he gave Ensign Florent? the order.

Ens Panettiere: Warp 5, Mr. Florent?. We have VIPs to get to safety.

Jansen rested in the co-pilot's as he waited for them to accellerate to warp speed and leave Infiniti behind them to suffer it's fate.

USS Infiniti - Bridge

David watched on the main viewer as the Aerowing warped away into the starfield before them. He sighed in relief knowing that they would be safely away from what was happening here aboard Infiniti. As he sat there, he realized he hadn't heard anything from Engineering since he asked for an update on their progress. The XO's heart began to race in his chest.

Cmdr Calzada: Bridge to Engineering, REPORT!

He rose from his chair and walked to the center of the Bridge and stood there with his hands on his hips, waiting on a response.

Engineering - Deck 11

As Zac quickly climbed the ladder to the upper level of Engineering, he looked back to make sure Lt. Trylon and Lt. Joffee were still behind him. When he reached the upper level he tapped his combadge to report in.

Lt. Waters: Sorry Commander, we've been a little busy down here! These things just appeared out of nowhere and started grabbing my Engineers! What the hell is going on? What are these things? Phasers are useless against them! Trylon and Joffee are with me on the upper level here and so far none of those things have come up, but I don't think that's gonna last! Any suggestions, Sir?

Zac looked over towards William and Michael to see if they were alright. He couldn't believe what was happening, and where these things could've came from. There was no indication of a transport signature upon their arrival, they just suddenly appeared. He hoped the XO had a good suggestion on how to deal with these beasts because he had the feeling that throwing tools at them would have little effect.

Bridge

When the XO heard the report from Engineering, he slowing walked back to his seat and sat quite heavily. He hit the companel hard with his fist.

Cmdr Calzada: Calzada to Waters, standby!

He rubbed his hands over his eyes for a moment and hit the companel again.

Cmdr Calzada: Calzada to Carpathia, you're needed on the Bridge.

David remained seated as he waited for the Commodore to exit his Ready Room.

Ready Room

The Commodore could hear in the XO's voice that something was wrong. He quickly rose from behind his desk and exited his Ready Room and entered the Bridge. He approached the XO and could see the worry in his face.

Como Carpathia: Status report, Number One.

He listened to the XO as he took his seat on the Bridge.

Bridge

David looked over to E.J. and explained the current situation.

Cmdr Calzada: The Aerowing has departed with Yeoman Panettiere in charge of bringing Professor Brewer and Dr. Walton back to SB34. Ensign Florent? is piloting.

He took a breath and continued.

Cmdr Calzada: I finally got a report back from Engineering and it seems the Deltaurans are there too. They somehow teleported down there and have been grabbing people in Engineering as they tried to defend themselves with phasers. Lt. Waters, Lt. Trylon, and Lt. Joffee are on the upper deck of Engineering now requesting instructions on what to do.

The XO sat there quietly and waited for the Commodore to speak.

The CO sat there in his chair silently for a few moments, and then came to a decision. His heart felt as heavy as a gravity well, on the words he was about to say.

Como Carpathia: We need to set the ship to self-destruct and abandon ship. We need to have the crew get to either the Shuttebay or an Escape Pod nearest to them. Get the Marines to their ship as well. I want everyone off Infiniti and at a safe distance. I'll be staying behind to ensure the ship self-destructs, even if I have to fire a phaser into the warp core myself. They're not taking this vessel.

He sat there rigidly in his seat, staring at the ship's status report indicator screen on the console between them.

The XO turned and gave the CO a very serious and stern look as he responded.

Cmdr Calzada: Commodore, that is unacceptable. You will not remain behind. If need be, we can set an explosive by the coolant system and set it to go off after we've boarded a shuttle and reached a safe distance.

He gave the Commodore an even more serious look.

Cmdr Calzada: Don't make me throw you over my shoulder and toss you in an Escape Pod myself. Can you imagine how it would affect Yeoman Panettiere if you stayed behind? Think about it.

David kept an eye on the CO and waited for somekind of reply.

The Commodore thought about Jansen, and how his death would seriously affect him. He realized the XO was right, that plan was unacceptable.

Como Carpathia: You're right, Number One. But we need to get the crew off the ship as soon as possible. The longer they're aboard the greater the risk is of losing even more of them.

He tapped the companel beside his seat, and made the announcement.

Como Carpathia: This is Commodore Carpathia, at this time I feel that the entire crew is in mortal danger from the Deltauran Intruders. All crew members are to evacuate Infiniti immediately. Go to the closest Escape Pod or to the Shuttlebay and abandon ship, repeat, abandon ship. Avoid contact with any Deltauran Intruder. Exposure to them is highly lethal. Lt. Commander Delgado will be setting the rendezvous location at a safe distance from Infiniti. Begin evacuation procedure, now.

After he made the announcement, a solemn silence overcame the CO. His first command, and he lost it so soon. How would he ever be able to look VAdmiral Arayuss in the eye again. He remained silent as the crew began the evacuation process and Escape Pods and shuttles began launching from Infiniti.
