Ulric heard the order of Capt Bennet and nodded as he accepted the responsibility of taking command of the Bridge.

Cmdr Sladek: Aye, Captain! I’ll take the Bridge!

The XO was happy he lent a hand bringing a family back together. Ulric wondered when it will be their turn to take on refugees. Since Eureka was the last ship to arrive, the Commander figured it would still be some time from now. Since Jerdan was not going to leave his position down at the extraction site until all the children he was charged with was safely aboard a ship in orbit, the full reunion of the Orte family was going to have to wait a while. Since the young Bajoran was still on HOLD on the Com Channel, Ulric debated if he should be told his parents were safely aboard Eureka.

Charrothe was very happy that Capt Bennet invited him to accompany her to Sickbay so he could see his parents. Quickly walking to the Turbolift, the Lieutenant JG entered and thanked his CO for the invitation.

Lt. JG Kaaha: Thank you for allowing me to accompany you, Captain. It means a lot to me to see my parents and let them know I’ve spoken to my brother as well.

The Chief Sec/Tac Officer stood beside the CO and waited on the doors to close before they were whooshed away to Deck 8, where Sickbay was located. Charrothe had not seen his parents in quite some time, so he was really looking forward to seeing them again.

Claire smiled at the Lieutenant JG as they rode the Turbolift down to Deck 8, where they exited and walked the short distance to Sickbay together. The Captain was more than happy to have Charrothe along, especially so he could see his parents.

Capt Bennet: You’re more than welcome, Charrothe. I’ll just feel better once your brother Jerdan is safely up here with us as well.

As they entered Sickbay, the Captain walked into the office of the Chief Medical Officer where Dr. Edison seemed to be waiting for her to arrive. The Lieutenant JG went over to the Biobeds and stood between them, watching over his parents as they were still asleep.

Capt Bennet: I’m here, Maxwell. What did you need me to see?

The CO waited on Dr. Edison to show her the reason for wanting the Captain to come to Sickbay. Claire was truly curious as to what the Doctor wanted her to see. Looking out into the medical area, the Captain could see Capt Sull sleeping peacefully in the surgical bay. Over by Lt. JG Kaaha’s parents were 2 containers which appeared to contain Xenomorph embryos! Claire sincerely hoped Dr. Edison did not have plans on bringing these creatures to SB34 for the Specialized Scientific Laboratories to try and run experiments on! These things were just too dangerous to be kept alive!

The Doctor led Capt Bennet over to where Capt Sull was unconscious and brought up the imagery of the Symbiote living inside the J’Naii’s abdomen. Before Capt Bennet got the wrong idea, Maxwell informed the Captain she was not looking at a Xenomorph embryo, but in fact a Trill Symbiote! Although it was extremely uncommon for a non-Trill to host a Symbiote, it was not impossible.

Cmdr Edison: Before you get the wrong idea, Captain. This is a Trill Symbiote. Even though Captain Sull is J’Naii, she managed to go through the necessary surgery to have a Symbiote installed in her abdomen. As for why she did this, I cannot answer. I also do not understand why Captain Sull failed to inform me of her status as a host when she came aboard. I won’t find it slipping her mind an acceptable excuse. Had the computer not caught the Isoboramine in her bloodstream, I could’ve lost both of them. Captain Sull will be remaining in a deep sleep for now as her memory repairs itself along with her motor skills. The Symbiote is helping the process, but it’s still going to take some time.

Looking over towards the Chief Sec/Tac Officer’s parents, the Doctor continued speaking…

Cmdr Edison: As for Lieutenant Kaaha’s parents, they’re both going to be fine. I had to remove embryos from both of them; those beasties are in those sealed containers over there. I wasn’t sure what you wanted to do regarding them. Since they’ve never been actually studied before, I thought perhaps they should go to Starbase 34 with us, but it’s your decision, Captain. Although…I think you should confer with our Chief Science Officer since under regulations, it’s his call on what to do with an unstudied life form.

The Chief Medical Officer remained by Capt Sull’s bed side as he waited to hear what Capt Bennet wished to do about the Xenomorph embryos. Maxwell understood how dangerous they were, but to have them to study, perhaps an effective way to kill them without spilling their acidic blood everywhere could be discovered. It’s not like Dr. Edison would condone the embryos being given to the Bio-Weapons Division! There is no way these things could be trained to be attack dogs for Starfleet! The thought of doing so would be a violation for everything the United Federations of Planets represented.

Claire looked at the Symbiote inside the abdomen of Capt Sull and also wondered why the Captain was keeping it a secret. But be that as it may, it was Azeri’s secret to keep and Capt Bennet did not want to embarrass Capt Sull. As for the Xenomorph embryos, Dr. Edison did make a considerable point in reminding Claire that she had to confer with Lt. Aurelius regarding whether or not they could just arbitrarily destroy the embryos without considering them for the Specialized Scientific Laboratories aboard SB34. There was no way the Captain would authorize the release of these embryos to be used in the Bio-Weapons Division. If it came down to that, Claire would destroy them herself…

Capt Bennet: Well, Doctor…I don’t know why Captain Sull failed to inform you or anyone else aboard that she was the host for a Symbiote, but this is her secret and I suggest it remain so until Captain Sull decides to tell anyone. As for the embryos, I’ll call Lieutenant Aurelius down here and confer with our Chief Science Officer on what his recommendations are.

Tapping the Combadge on the front of her uniform, Claire contacted Marcus at the Science I Station on the Bridge.

Capt Bennet: Bennet to Lieutenant Aurelius! I need you down here in Sickbay! Come at once! Bennet out!

As the CO waited on the Chief Science Officer to arrive, Claire walked over to the Xenomorph embryos and examined the creatures that had yet reached the maturity level to burst through the chests of Charrothe’s parents. It didn’t look like it would’ve been much longer, so it was a good thing Mr. and Mrs. Orte were beamed up when they were. Otherwise, they would’ve died from the shock of having their chest cavities ripped open from the inside by these insidious things. Lt. JG Kaaha’s parents owed their lives to Cmdr Sladek for initiating that contact be made with Jerdan on the planet’s surface. Had the XO not had the compassion for Charrothe’s plight for his family, they surely would’ve died in the power facility.

As Marcus was doing his duty and maintaining scans on the surface of the planet, specifically, the extraction site where Orte Jerdan was located inside the ISSCV along with MCpt Lopez, he heard Capt Bennet call for him from Sickbay! Signing out of the Science I Station, the Lieutenant quickly tapped his Combadge to reply as he moved expeditiously to the Turbolift.

Lt. Aurelius: On my way, Captain!

The Romulan exchange Science Officer entered the lift and took it down to Deck 8 and moved as fast as he could to Sickbay where Marcus entered and immediately saw Capt Bennet, Dr. Edison and Lt. JG Kaaha standing beside the Biobeds where the Lieutenant JG’s parents were currently sleeping. At the foot of each bed there was a sealed container, each containing what appeared to be a Xenomorph embryo! The Lieutenant was aghast at the sight of the creatures slumbering within the containers.

Lt. Aurelius: Are those what I think they are?

The Chief Science Officer waited to hear if his perception was accurate from either Capt Bennet or Dr. Edison. If these were truly Xenomorph embryos and they were fully intact, the Captain must have called him down to ask his thoughts on what they should do with the creatures. Would they be terminated or would they remain in the containers and be transported to SB34 for study in their Specialized Scientific Laboratories? Marcus needed to ponder the benefits from these creatures being captured to see if they outweigh the liabilities of the dangers they could pose to every living thing on the Starbase.

The Doctor looked over at the Romulan Chief Science Officer and responded to his inquiry, letting Lt. Aurelius know the creatures in the containers were exactly what he thought they were. Maxwell wasn't sure what Marcus was going to suggest as a course of action, but being that this was the first time they have been able to capture a set of Xenomorph embryos, they could be found useful at the Specialized Science Laboratories on SB34. Dr. Edison hoped Lt. Aurelius wouldn't make a rash, emotional reaction and make the logical choice.

Cmdr Edison: They sure are, Marcus! Those are Xenomorph embryos and given their current state of development, I'd say they're a few hours from being ready to burst through someone's chest had I not removed them and put those creatures in stasis containers. The question is now, what do we do with them?

The Chief Medical Officer looked towards Capt Bennet for her suggestion so Lt. Aurelius could make an informed decision. The Captain needed to give her input as well, this way Marcus would know what the CO's opinion was on what she would recommend be done with the embryos. Maxwell wasn't sure what course of action should be taken, which is why he was glad it wasn't his ultimate decision to make.

Claire stood there quietly as Dr. Edison filled in Lt. Aurelius on what was in the stasis containers at the foot of the 2 Biobeds. When the Doctor looked her way, it was Capt Bennet’s time to chime in on what she thought they should do with the Xenomorph embryos. Claire hated them, for their kind killed her younger brother, Rane. If left up to the Captain, she would have them terminated immediately.

Capt Bennet: Well Marcus, if it were left solely up to me, I would have those things destroyed immediately, but I understand that I need to have consulted you first before making a unilateral decision to end their brief lives. I know Captain Sull would agree with me, as Commander Sladek would as well. But in order to do so, I would need you to sign off on it. So what say you, Lieutenant?

The CO stood there waiting to hear from Lt. Aurelius on what he wanted to do with the embryos in the stasis containers. Looking over at Charrothe, Capt Bennet could see him holding his mother’s hand as she slept. Claire wondered if Lt. JG Kaaha contacted his younger brother yet to let him know their parents were now safely aboard Eureka. After the Captain heard from her Chief Science Officer, she would ask Charrothe about informing his brother, Jerdan, that their parents were fine now.

Looking at the dormant creatures in the sealed stasis containers, surrounded by a Level 10 Forcefield apparently presented no danger in the eyes of Lt. Aurelius. But…be that as it may, it was really important to Capt Bennet that these creatures be killed. Marcus felt his hands were kind of tied in the matter, but thought that since Adm Arayuss was aboard Sutherland, they could simply ask him if the Xenomorph embryos should remain in stasis until they dock at SB34 or should their lives be terminated. The Lieutenant felt that the Admiral had the final say on the matter since he was in command of the Starbase.

Lt. Aurelius: Well Captain, I am thinking since Admiral Arayuss is aboard Sutherland we can contact him and ask what we should do with these creatures. That way we will just be doing whatever the Commander in Chief of Gamma Fleet says we should do. That’s my recommendation, Ma’am.

The Chief Science Officer continued to look at the Xenomorph embryos and wondered what the Admiral was going to say about them. Would the CinC want the creatures brought to SB34’s Specialized Scientific Laboratories or would he prefer to have them completely destroyed? If the Admiral needed to confer with the rest of his Command Staff, they were all here above New Bajor. VAdm Martinelli was aboard Sutherland along with MGen Alderez and Como Carpathia was aboard Infiniti. The ball would be in his court after Capt Bennet contacted Adm Arayuss and asked him what they should do regarding these extremely hostile and deadly creatures.

The Captain arched an eyebrow at the thought of contacting Adm Arayuss regarding the Xenomorph embryos and thought that it was a rather good idea! This way if something went wrong, the responsibility for the outcome would rest solely on the Admiral’s shoulders. Nodding towards Lt. Aurelius, Claire addressed him before tapping her Combadge to inform the Bridge they needed to hail Sutherland so she could speak to Adm Arayuss.

Capt Bennet: Good thinking, Marcus! Bennet to Bridge! Commander Sladek, I need you to hail Sutherland and have the transmission sent to Sickbay so I can speak directly to Admiral Arayuss! I need to confer with him regarding the Xenomorph embryos Dr. Edison removed from Lieutenant Kaaha’s parents. So make it happen, Number One!

Looking over towards Lt. JG Kaaha, the Captain informed the Lieutenant JG that his younger brother, Jerdan, was still waiting with MCpt Lopez to hear if contact had been made with their parents.

Capt Bennet: Charrothe, your little brother is still on Hold waiting to hear the status of your parents, you may want to get in touch with him and let Jerdan know they’re safely aboard Eureka.

The CO waited to hear back from Cmdr Sladek who was on the Bridge regarding the opening of a channel to Adm Arayuss aboard Sutherland as she watched Lt. JG Kaaha with his parents realizing this brother was still standing by to get the status of their parents. Last bit of information Jerdan had was that his parents were in the power facility and he was unable to contact them. Claire was sure the young Bajoran boy would be overjoyed to hear that his parents were safely aboard Eureka. Charrothe wouldn’t need to contact the Bridge to continue the conversation with Jerdan, all he would need to do is request the Computer to have the channel reopened to his Combadge so the Lieutenant JG could give young Mr. Orte the fantastic news!
